Belonging. We know that Jesus brings with Him life in all of its fullness, and we know that a relationship with Him is necessary for us to live the most fulfilling lives possible. But we also know that it is impossible to truly follow Jesus in isolation. To live out our faith we need community-a place to belong, a place to engage with one another, to be involved in one another's lives; a place where we are encouraged and strengthened and challenged. We need a sense of belonging so that together we become the people we were created to be.
Believing. Life isn't easy or simple, nor do we want to represent it that way. We exist in a fog of ambiguity and can easily get lost in the varying shades of gray. Rather than turn our backs on the gray or deny it exists, we boldly jump into it, just as Jesus did, offering a place for people to be open with each other about who we are and where we struggle. And as we seek to understand God in the midst of the gray, we are confident that God's Spirit will guide us into all truth..
Becoming. We are all in process-and that's a good thing. We want to become all that God has created us to be and do all that He has prepared for us to do. But for this to happen, we need to have the tools and be given the opportunities. It is in the context of community that this happens. And as our lives are changed by the Son of God, He will use us to bring light into dark places, mercy into cruel places, goodness into places of exploitation, justice into places of oppression. In the power of His Spirit He will transform us and use us to make things right.
