From the Elders

Dear Trinity Family,

In accordance with the Manual of Church Practices, each year the Elders are charged to assess their fitness to continue to serve the church in the role of Elder.  The Manual of Church Practices also calls for the congregation to have a four-week period, prior to the Elder review, during which they have opportunity to give input as to the fitness of the Elders.   So in keeping with the charge of the Manual, for the next four weeks you will have opportunity to comment on the how you feel the Elders are fulfilling their mandate.

The following are the three chief areas of Elder responsibility:

Theological Role.  As guardians of the truth, the Elders have responsibility for directing the spiritual life of the church, ensuring that teaching content is consistent with doctrinal position, that evangelistic and discipling efforts are in concert with the overall values and mission of the church, and that church discipline is biblically administered when necessary.

Missiological Role.  As directional overseers, the Elders formulate and cast the vision the Lord has given them for Trinity.  They have oversight of the Deacons, the membership process and the overall direction of the church.  They also are charged to recommend to the church all people to fill ministerial positions (including Elders, Deacons, and ministerial staff).

Shepherding Role.  As shepherds of the church, the Elders have the responsibility to ensure loving, compassionate care of the church, gently and graciously leading the church and her members toward maturity in Christ.

Please take a few minutes over the next few weeks to prayerfully consider how the Elders are doing with regard to their responsibilities.  Please be as specific as possible in your comments and concerns as these will help the Elders to better understand how they can fulfill their responsibilities more effectively.  And we ask that you please sign your name so that we can follow up on any concerns that you might express.  Everyone will receive a form they can use for comment at a weekend service, or you may use your own paper and place it with the offering anytime until February 11th.

We want to grow in maturity in the Lord and in our effectiveness in serving you, His church.

Grace and Peace,

Ross Queener, Fred Atkins, Tim Tien, and Keith Boyd
